Morrison’s Jig Key of E minor, Dropped D tuning

This is a very straightforward E minor tune. Remember to dampen the A string for the E minor chords. You should be beginning to get a feel for the dampening technique now. Remember to lay the heel (the outer edge) of your palm on the inside of your low D string peg. This can then serve as an axis spot for strumming and dampening using the length of the outer edge of your palm. This adds greatly to the rhythm of the accompaniment. I just strum the three bottom strings for the first (brief) D chord. I also play another brief version of this chord in the second bar of the B part.

Morrison’s Jig with substitutions

There is a similarity between this version of Morrison's and the Substitute version of the previous tune: the sixth chord (the C major chord) in bar three acts as a substitute for the minor tonic chord (E minor). I am fond of this sound and use it quite a bit. Again I just strum the lower strings for the quick D chord in bar two. The D major in bar four is delayed until beat 3 thus creating a nice rhythmic shift; this effect is repeated in the second part. I have played an E minor suspended chord at the start of the second part thus lessening the strong sense of the tonic chord.
